SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. — The Giants lost a former key member of the organization.
Bill Neukom, who served as San Francisco's CEO and managing general partner, died at the age of 83, the Puget Sound Business Journal first reported Wednesday.
Neukom's former law firm, K&L Gates, confirmed his death in an update to his bio.
Neukom began his career in law during the 1960s before he became Microsoft's first general counsel in 1985 and eventually an investor in the Giants in 1995. In May 2008, he was named Giants managing general partner, succeeding Peter Magowan after he retired.
On Jan. 1, 2012, Neukom retired and was succeeded by current Giants CEO Larry Baer.
Neukom famously coined the phrase “The Giants’ Way,” which acted as a set of standards for the organization during the team's 2010 World Series championship run.
