PIEDMONT, Calif. — The NHTSA is investigating the Tesla Cybertruck crash in Piedmont that resulted in the deaths of three and injuries to a fourth, the agency announced on Friday.
Tragedy struck around 3:10 a.m. Wednesday when the truck hit a tree and retaining wall, then caught fire.
Officers were alerted by an iPhone and found the vehicle engulfed in flames, with someone attempting to rescue a victim.
All occupants were Piedmont High graduates and current college sophomores home for the Thanksgiving holiday.
Sam Miller identified her son, Jordan, as the survivor, and the deceased as Jack Nelson, Soren Dixon, and Krysta Tsukahara.
Speed is suspected as a factor in the crash, authorities said earlier this week.
