I-Street Bridge Replacement Project gets $25 million in funding
When construction is set to begin.
WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The I-Street Bridge Replacement Project will receive $25 million in funding after a decision was reached by the California Transportation Committee, according to the city of West Sacramento.
A meeting was held Thursday to decide whether to allocate more funding to the project, which is expected to cost more than $300 million.
The I Street Bridge connecting Sacramento and West Sacramento was built in 1911. The city of West Sacramento said the current bridge is outdated and does not fit modern traffic safety needs.
The planned bridge, which would stretch 860 feet, is designed to include wide sidewalks and bike lanes while connecting C Street in West Sacramento to Sacramento’s Railyards — areas identified as critical for economic and mobility improvements.
An estimated $275 million of the project's funding would come from state commitments.
A portion of these funds will likely come from Senate Bill 1, California's gas tax.
Construction for the bridge project is expected to being in 2026.
