Oakland Zoo closes early due to fire near the menagerie
Zoo officials said no animals were evacuated since the fire was not on the menagerie's grounds.
OAKLAND, Calif. — The Oakland Zoo closed 30 minutes early after it was reported that there was a fire near the animal park on Saturday.
Fire crews responded to the 2-alarm blaze near the 9800 block of Stanley Ave.
Forward progress was stopped and was "largely extinguished as of 5:45 p.m., the Oakland Fire Department said.
