1:20 p.m. PT Thursday Update: Anthony Tordillos has declared an upset victory in the special election runoff for the vacant San Jose City Council District 3 seat, his campaign announced Thursday. Tordillos, the city's Planning Commission chair, held 65% of the vote as of Wednesday evening over his runoff opponent Gabby Chavez-Lopez in the race for the seat vacated by disgraced councilman Omar Torres.

SAN JOSE, Calif. — Voters in San Jose are in a special election to replace former Councilman Omar Torres, who resigned after being convicted of child molestation.
Gabby Chavez-Lopez and Anthony Tordillos are in the runoff, with Chavez-Lopez leading in the April election.
Both prioritize addressing homelessness and public safety and are endorsed by the Santa Clara County Democratic Party.
