Sacramento, be ready to pay more to park. But, exactly how much more?
This change was approved without discussion on the council’s consent calendar.
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento City Council has decided to increase the base parking meter rate to $3 per hour, effective July 1, as part of efforts to tackle the city’s budget deficit.
This change was approved without discussion on the council’s consent calendar. Previously, the “Tier 1” parking meter rate was $2 per hour.
Additionally, the new ordinance reduces the number of attendees required to trigger a flat rate fee for parking during special events from 15,000 to 10,000, like concerts at the Golden 1 Center.
Parking meter rates in Sacramento have been gradually increasing. Since 2016, the base rate was $1.75 per hour, rising to $2 last year, with enforcement on Sundays beginning then.
Next week, the council will consider further parking fee increases, including those for city garages and higher parking meter tiers.
Street parking rates can escalate to “Tier 2” or “Tier 3” after specific time limits, with current rates at $3.50 and $4.50 per hour, respectively.
A new proposal suggests raising Tier 2 to $4.50 and Tier 3 to $6 per hour, pending council approval.
The council will also discuss potential rate hikes at five city-owned garages: Capitol Garage, City Hall Garage, Memorial Garage, Old Sacramento Garage, and Tower Bridge Garage.
The proposal includes increasing garage rates from $1.50 to $2 per half hour and raising monthly rates by $10 at Memorial, Old Sacramento, and Tower Bridge Garages.
Additionally, the flat rate for special events would expand from $10-$15 to $10-$30.
