SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. — Mayor Daniel Lurie is considering ending free parking in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park to help address the city's budget deficit.
The proposal suggests creating 3,100 paid parking spots, charging $3 per hour, potentially generating $4.9 million annually.
The San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department faces a $16.5 million deficit over the next two years, with the city’s overall deficit exceeding $800 million.
While some residents support the plan to maintain services, others oppose the added cost.
The proposal will be reviewed by the mayor, Board of Supervisors, and the public in upcoming budget discussions.
