Victim of surf rescue at Ocean Beach that ended in death is ID’d
SFFD said the incident is at the location of Ocean Beach at Lawton Street.
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. — The San Francisco Fire Department said one person was rescued at Ocean Beach on Thursday afternoon, but later died.
The incident occurred at the location of Ocean Beach at Lawton Street.
The man died after rushing into the ocean fully clothed to rescue a dog, who survived.
SFFD said CPR was performed on the person who was pulled from the water, but those efforts were not successful.
The victim has been identified as 59-year-old Garbo Chang.
SFFD sent an alert at 2:19 p.m. advising residents to avoid the area while the rescue was underway. The scene was cleared an hour later.
